When Janie came into this world, she was born with a clubbed foot,
it was her left foot. The doctors told Janie’s mom that the
problem was not severe, but it would take patience and time to turn
her daughter’s foot to the normal place where it would function properly.
Diligently
each and everyday Janie’s mother would exercise her daughter’s left
foot. At times the pain from the exercises prescribed by the
doctors was so intense that it would make not only little Janie cry,
but it would make her mother cry as well. At four months of
age the doctors decided, along with the physical therapy techniques
they were using on Janie’s foot, that they needed to cast her left
leg prior to Janie’s learning to crawl. The cast was so cumbersome
and uncomfortable for Janie. Not only was the cast itchy and
hot - it made sitting up for Janie difficult. As well, the awkwardness
of the cast made it hard for her mother to carry Janie around, but
in her mother’s wisdom all through the difficulties of helping her
daughter correct her left foot she held stead fast to the faith in
what the doctors were instructing her to do.
Janie was too young
and immature to understand the circumstances she was dealing with.
All she knew was that the exercises hurt and the cast was uncomfortable.
She would struggle against her mom, cry in her discomfort and whine
at the frustration this dilemma caused. Janie was at Point A,
her beginning, in order for Janie to walk and reach Point C she had
to go through a process called Point B. Her mother understood
the process, even though it pained her as well.
Within
a couple of months the cast was removed and through continued moderate
physical therapy Janie began walking at nine months of age. Today
at six years old, you would never know Janie had been born with a
clubbed foot. Janie runs, jumps, skips and plays in complete
comfort. There was a process for Janie though in order for her
to reach the other side.
Many times in our lives we are impatiently
waiting at Point A. We desire to skip the process of our spiritual
growth and move to what we see as our final destination without the
help of God. God, the Creator of all that is good, knows us
deeper and more intimately than we know ourselves. He in His
infinite wisdom, if we will allow Him, will guide us from Point A
to Point C. God desires all of His children to be successful
in their endeavors and to find peace, happiness and ultimately the
understanding of love made complete. God will not force us to
bend to His design for us, but He gently, firmly and repeatedly is
there to show us His way for us.
We must slow down enough in
our busy lives and take time to listen to His instructions for our
lives. Only through His infinite wisdom can we complete our
journey. We may come kicking, crying and screaming…but if we
will allow ourselves to go through each step in our process with His
Divine guidance we will overcome any and all adversities that we might
encounter. With Him all things are possible - it’s up to us
to let Him mold us and make us after His will and not our own.
Every
Point A to Point C has within it the journey of self-discovery called
Point B, do not skip the middle part of what you are to become. Without
our bumps, bruises and setbacks we can never obtain our true selves. Slow down, pray, meditate and call upon God for wisdom, discernment
and guidance. Enjoy the process, who said life was a rushed delivery
of what and who we can become?

story will end. But that’s all right. When you set out
on a journey and night covers the road, that’s when you discover the
stars.”- Nancy Willard
