I tend to look on life, and what happens around me, from the advantage
of being an old fart, out of tune with the times. I happen to think
there’s a lot to be said for being politically incorrect and old at
the same time, it seems to allow me to say things that annoy people
and just be considered senile.
Oh, I get taken seriously by some people,
those that tend to wonder where the heck our country is going to,
but I live in an area of Texas that is largely liberal so most people
tend to dismiss my rants.
The little enclave on which I live is only
two blocks long, and most of us that have our homes here are strongly
conservative. Once you get “off the block” however, you enter a different
world, one that seems like you need a passport to enter.
Another advantage
of being old is remembering when things tended to make sense, and
political correctness made no sense whatsoever. It used to be important
to know about your country, how it got started, what documents were
the precursor to what we have now, what words of wisdom were imparted
by those that kick started the country into being…..
Then came California.
Now, it appears that the Declaration of Independence has become a
politically incorrect document, along with George Washington's journal,
John Adams' diary, Samuel Adams' "The Rights of the Colonists" and
William Penn's "The Frame of Government of Pennsylvania.
Let me reminisce
a bit, if I may. (Oh, horse feathers, I’m gonna reminisce whether
you like it or not, I’m a politically incorrect old fart.) Shortly
after I started the 4th grade, a group of men visited our elementary
school. Every student in the school was given a gift. The gift was
a book, small, cloth bound, with a blue cover I believe. I had it
for years, and finally lost it in a house fire at my dad’s house when
I was in the Nam. The book contained the following:
Now, it’s been pointed out many times that there is no specific mention of God in the Constitution of the United States.
Now,
that knowledge is being taken away by liberal judges, liberal courts,
and liberal organization.
Its time for times to change. Back in 1964,
Bob Dylan said it. It’s time for us to let Congress know we mean it.
“Come
senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't
block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's
a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And
rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.”
There’s no better
time than now.
